l recently purchased a speed boat and on the back it has 2 air intake thing that are connected to their own separate tubes but when l pulled the gas tank they are connected to nothing is this normal and if not where are they supposed to be connected and what is the point of having these 1 faces backwards and 1 faces forward

Probably to cool down the engine compartment. The one facing forward lets the cool air in and the one facing back lets the warmer air out.

They are just for show so you can impress the Babes.

If this is a boat with an inboard engine, at least one of the air ducts should be hooked up to a blower fan. l believe it is the vent on the starboard side (right side) is the one that should be hooked up to the blower fan.

The point of having these on an inboard or I/O boat is to vent gas fumes out of the bilge. This should be done before starting for at least 30 seconds & after fueling. Failure to vent the bilge & inspect for gas fumes could result in ur boat literally turning into a gas bomb. Yes, it can go boom & kill a lot of people on board the vessel very quickly.
