It shut itself down .l cleared the water intake .l let it cool off and it started right upbut it would only run 1/2 throttle .Even through the throttle was at full speed.l took a compression check and both cylinders were the same 120 each.Any ideas ?

First of all look to see if u burnt any wires or hoses around the block, or look to see if anything melted under the flywheel due to extreme heat from the unit overheating, l would replace ur water pump or at least check it!! l happen to have a spare impeller instock for ur 1996 9.9 Gamefisher - u can email me thru this site.. or at the address below.
Also check the transformer it sits on the left side of the motor when u r standing behind the motor facing it, its a little black square box with a spade terminal on the bottom & it should have a white wire connected to it approx 5-6 inches long - make sure it (the wire) isnt burnt or shorting out to the block.
l also have the rebuild kits for the carb & fuel pumps.
