l have a '97 Mercruiser 7.4L engine that has no oil pressure.l need to pull the engine l think to get things working again.l have a car mechanic friend that will work on engine for cheap, but l need to get it out of boat. What needs to be disconnected? How do l hoist it out (assuming l have chains and leverage)? What can l expect when putting it back in.Not sure if this helps but it is a '95 Maxum 2300 SC that it is being pulled from. Thanks!
In response to ''sam d'':Yes l installed a secondary guage and l am sure the oil pressure is low.My initial thought was it was the guage but l did put a secondary one directly on the engine and l see the same pressure.Thanks.

Your best bet is to buy a manual. Basically though pull out-drive remove wires, linkage, exhaust, and motor mounts. Rent a cherry-picker (motor hoist). Main thing in the reinstall is to make sure your motor is properly aligned with the out-drive.

Best way is too keep the mounts on the engine so you do not have to aline it when re installing> Get a manual for removal>

You r talking about a ton of work here if u have never done one before. You can pull one in an hour easy if u have all the right stuff & have done it a few times before but if at all possible l would take it to a service shop. If not here is some advice on it.

Depending on ur boat configuration u will more than likely have to remove the whole engine hatch cover. Disconnect fuel suplly line, Ground cables, Drive, Starter wire, Trim wires, throttle, Shift cables, Mercathode wires & basically anything else that is attached to the engine & to the boat. Take out all 4 of the 3/4'' lag bolts (2 on each mount) that hold the front mounts down to the stringers. Remove ur 2 3/4'' bolts that r on the rear. Take special note of those round looking washers that the back bolts go through. You will need those there when putting motor back in. Loosen the hose clamps around the exhaust bellows & start pulling. Go slow & make sure u havent forgotten anything like ground wires on the back. When u have it out look down in ur exhaust pipes that is still in the boat & make sure ur shutters r there. IF not replace them. Might as well replace ur water pump impellar while the motor is out. Good luck

Are you sure you have no oil pressure, have you checked with a manual gauge. Also try pulling the distributor and spinning the oil pump with a drill. You car mechanic friend should have the tools required to do so. Maybe you allready have but l just thought l would suggest double checking. Good luck.
