Can I put a 70HP motor on an older 14' fiberglass V-hull boat

That is a bit big, don'tcha think? l had a 45hp on mine and a trolling motor on the front. Up to you if you need to get to the fish faster than others...might be harder to control.

l have a 1971 Glastron 14 footer. It has a coastgard certification tag that says 60HP Max. They started putting certification tags on boats in compliance with the safe boating act in the early 70's. If your boat is pre 70 is or does not have a tag and you have a 70HP laying around, you can put it on, just be careful. It is gonna be hard to control at high speeds. Espacially when turning.

USCG boatbuilding guidelines for 20'' transom and remote steering:
Length x transom width x 2 minus 90, round up to next multiple of 5.

so a 14' boat, 5 1/2 wide at the transom, would take a 70hp motor.
