l have a 1985 bayliner eagle 3 19 ft. l put a new 350 engine in it, new carb, points, plugs, and wires. it idels great but under load it bogs badly l cant get it to go. my prop is 18 pitch 3 blade when l punch it out of water and in gear its good, but as soon as l put it in the water and punch it it bogs badly

That typically means one or more cylinders is dropping out under load.

possible causes:
Loss of compression (compression gauge about $25).
Inadequate spark (inline spark tester, couple bucks).

There r a few things u can check to see if maybe they r causing ur problem.First check to be sure u r getting enough fuel.Make sure all ur filters r clean & that the pick-up in the tank is not full of crap.Next be sure ur points r set properly & ur timing is right.You can also open up ur idle screws a little & this will help to.Also l know u say that it is a new carb,but without the engine running have someone move the shifter to full throttle & look into the carb to check & be sure that it is getting a shot of fuel from ur accelerator pump. l would try these things first before anything else.Hope this helps with ur problem.Good luck.

You say that you put a ''new'' engine in the boat. Was this a complete engine that came with a dist. coil, and carb.????
the problem might be the dist. is automotive, not marine. It woiuld run great at idle, but bog badly under load...the prop sounds right, but, l do not remember an ''eagle'' 19' with a 350 in it. Comeback if you have more details. Good Luck!!!

it could be the prop? but a 18 inch pitch doesnt seem to big, what l would do is post a question like this
give the size of your boat and the make
the size of your engine and ask
what kind of and what size of prop are you turning with the same boat and motor
than some body with the same will give you what there turning, also it could be a fuel propblem

So this new engine you put in it, car motor, or boat motor? If you have replaced a marine motor with an automotive block, There is your ''bog''. Auto motors are cammed and timed different, also the heads have differences, to privide max. pwr at different Rpms.

Lease two sweedish body builders and purchase some oars.

adjust your carb when it is in the water turn the distributor right to advance the timing while running in the water at a idle that motor is meant to run under load always tune/adjust under load good luck

What motor was in it before? The outdrives are geared differently for several engine sizes.
