l have a 50 hp four stroke mercury...bought new in late 07 ...never a problem till today!!!!Boat was running fine then started to lose speed, l droped back on the trottle and the motor just quit...tried to re-start..every now and then it would start and then stop.....l took the gas line off the motor in hopes it was flooded....re-connected and still start and stop.....any help...the gas was just purchased yesterday....l alos filled my truck up a the same

Your idle setting may need adjusted up a little. Your situation seems to correspond with the characteristics. The vibration of the motor can often cause different things to loosen or shift.

If u bought it from a dealer, take it to him before the warranty runs out- if the motor set up for a few months & this was the first time it was run since it was set up, it could be the jets that r stopped up.if not , the power pack could have gone out, The reason l mentioned the jets is the fact that they r so small in comparison to the 2- strokes they have a tendency to stop up rather quickly if the gas is not run out of the carburetor before sitting up, even for a few short months. Sounds like a fuel problem to me.

This is a 07, it should be under warranty-do not do much to this until you get a dealer to look at it-if l had to guess, l would say it is the fuel system-most likely it is a plugged inline filter-there should be two, one in the fuel line, and one in the cowling near the carb. any engine that sets for a while is apt to have varnish build-up in the lines, sometimes it plugs the filters.
