My family has a canoe that l would like to take out on the lake.l live in vermont and would be going in Lake Champlain and Otter creek.It is not that big of a canoe and we only used in on a small river/creek that ran through our farm as a kid.l was just wondering if l need anything to take it out on the water.l have looked but not seen anything.l am not going to be fishing just rowing.Any information would be great.Thanks

Do you mean as far as registration, title, etc? Probably nothing. But the place to check would be with your local DNR, DMV, Secretary of State, or whoever issues license plates, car registrations, etc. They would have the definitive answer.

you should not need anything.. but just go until they tell you that you can not and say that you didnt know. If it is not posted, then they can not blame you.

In most jurisdictions, registration/paperwork is not needed for human-propelled vessels.

Best check with your own wildlife/fisheries/parks/natural resources authority first, though. Sure, they will forgive you if you convince 'em you did not know, but only after you pay a hefty fine.

Good idea to make sure somebody knows when you expect to be back. Or at least leave contact information on your vehicle.

As long as the canoe is registered you may paddle it anywhere you like. (Note: paddle not row)
