I have a 4cl rinker boat the starter went bad how do i take it off

Not trying to be ignorant with you, but if you do not know this and can not figure it out, let someone else work on your boat.

You're gonna learn too many lessons the hard way and it is gonna be expensive if you try working on it yourself.

Disconnect battery, disconnect wires from starter. Remove bolts and watch for shim measurement. Remove starter. Put starter in place and shim. Replace bolts. Reconnect wires to starter. Reconnect wires to battery. Start.

As with the first poster, if you are unsure about how to proceed, then you need someone else to do the work for you. An improperly installed starter will chew up the flywheel and you really dont want to get involved with replacing one of those.

You may have done this already, but l am going to throw it out there just in case.

Disconnect, clean & reconnect all the electrical connectors battery to solenoid to starter. l mean make 'em shine. l use a dremel with a carbon steel wire brush, but sandpaper works too. Then make 'em tight-tight-tight! If ur battery posts have wingnuts, use pliers on 'em.

If the problem is, that the bendix gear is not engaging the flywheel, there is two possible causes other than faulty starter: bendix threads need lubrication (couple drops 3 in 1 oil - not wd40, not grease), or else the battery needs to be recharged or replaced. A ''load test'' (free at most car parts stores) is the ultimate test of a battery fitness for service.

Many boat parts in perfect working order r replaced, & the owners never know it, because in the process of replacing it they inadverdently fix the wiring problem.

Starters can generally be rebuilt with good results, at fraction of the cost of new.
