l think the answer to your question is it would have to be marine paint.
As for where to buy it? l would look in the phone book under
boat repairs or maybe a local body shop can get it for you,,
It might pat you to look under Paints..
As for prices,, l think the body shops or boat repair shops will be around the same prices.. Try going to Auto Zone or Advanced automotive.. l hope l was some help..

use an epoxy paint from a marine or automotive supply store. proper preparation is the key to a long lasting, good looking finish. u need to rough up the original surface with 220 sandpaper then apply 2 coats of primer, lightly wet sanding between each coat with 320. then apply 3 light coats of paint, wet sanding each with 600 sandpaper. finally, put on the finish coat & wet sand with 1000 then 1600. then polish later with a good wax like turtle wax marine. l did this on a boat about 10 years ago & when l sold it last year it still looked good.

Amanda.
Go to a Marine store & get ''Marine'' paint. If u have questions about it, ask them. Tell them what u want to do. u may need ''bottom'' paint, as well as ''topside'' paint. You can choose either in almost any color imaginable.
But. this is for certain. u do not need gelcoat. In fact, that is about the worst thing u can do. if it has not been done already. which it probably has. Painting over the gelcoat works great. u just need marine paint - if u want to paint it once & forget about it for awhile.
What ever u do. do not go to to ''Auto Zone'' or ''Advanced Automotive'' or to any auto body shop. these guys do not know anymore about ''Marine or Boat'' paint then they do about the paint u put on ur fingernails.
So. unless u want to paint it again, or have it look like ''you know what'' within a month.. do it right the first time. A ''Marine strore is where u need to go. & they will give u all the proper help u need.

Happy & Safe Boating!

PS.
The words ''boat & inexpensive'' r not acurately used, when used together. lol
