Karly it is supposed to aid in launching & retrieving the boat from the trailer. When u back the trailer into the water loosen off the wench cable & make some slack in it about 10-12 ft or so, then lock the winch again so the boat does not drift away. Now release the tilt pin push the boat back & up at the same time, the trailer should tilt up reducing the amount force required to launch.
P.S. l find them more trouble than their worth but give it ago & see what u think.
