A sail is triangular shaped 18ft. by 11ft by 25ft. How many Sq.ft of material is needed to cover it?

area of a triangle = 1/2BH
assuming the sail is a square triangle, as many sails are, then the largest value is the hypoteneuse, the smallest is the base, and the middle is the height.

A= 1/2 (11) (18)
A= 1/2 (198)
A=99

you need 99 sq ft of material to cover it.

to calculate area of a tringle is 1/2 bh so mutiply base times height and divide by 2 and that will be your answer

Half base by diameter. Found out which number is the base and bingo!

The two above me only got there first because l am a slow typer (but brilliant at basic arithmetic!)

If you do not know the height or the base, you can use Heron is formula. (You just need the three side lengths, which you have)

99sf for one side, 198 for both.

1/2 base x height will give you area of one side then double it for both sides.

A=bh/2

A=18*11/2

A=198/2

A=99

99sq.ft

If you wanted to cover both sides it would remain 198sq.ft
